What Makes Something Halal?

An Arabic word for ‘permissible’, Halal means food that is allowed per Islamic law.

For any meat to be certified as halal, it must not be from a forbidden animal (such as pork) or a forbidden cut (from the animal’s hindquarters).

In addition, once slaughtered, the animal has to be hung upside down whilst it bleeds dry.
